Haiku Friday: Ball

Here’s my haiku for today, on the topic of Ball:

learn from a wise cat

get rid of what you don’t need

hack up a fur ball

It’s Haiku Friday again.  For the past twenty years or so, it has been my practice to write one haiku every day. Every Friday I share a haiku here, about whatever topic I happen to choose.  I invite you to write a haiku on this topic too, and share it with me and the readers of this blog.  Just write it in the Comments below. The only rules are: 1) your haiku must be about the named topic; 2) you must follow the 5-7-5 syllable format; 3) no obscenities or hate (I will delete those).  That’s it.

  1. The Dog’s Perspective:
A bouncing sphere with so much
    FUN inside of it!

    I get exercise!
(You wonder where I found this
    brand new tennis ball.)

    I bring it back.
Please throw it for me again!
    Gotta chase that ball!

    That man has a big
    funny-looking swatter and
    he wants MY ball back!

    Not gonna happen!
Please throw it for me again!
    Gotta chase that ball!

  2. Reading your haiku, I felt that my dog Alex Terrgi and I were playing at the dog park. He loves to play ball, although he is not too clear about his role in bringing it back.

My cat haiku is also almost true to life — she does hack up fur balls, but her wisdom can be disputed.

Thanks for playing Haiku Friday — I always enjoy your haiku.

  3. Hi Kim,

As a cat mom, I can relate to this haiku. I don’t know about the wisdom part, but they sure do seem to feel better after their fur ejection.
