Haiku Friday: Invention

Here’s my haiku for today, on the topic of Invention:

did griots complain
when writing was invented?
yes, probably so

It’s Haiku Friday again. For the past twenty years or so, it has been my practice to write one haiku every day. Every Friday I share a haiku here, about whatever topic I happen to choose. I invite you to write a haiku on this topic too, and share it with me and the readers of this blog. Just write it in the Comments below. The only rules are: 1) your haiku must be about the named topic; 2) you must follow the 5-7-5 syllable format; 3) no obscenities or hate (I will delete those). That’s it.

  1. I can’t see the word invention or invent without being reminded of the best company I ever had the pleasure to work for, and the wonderful people with whom I worked. Back in the day it was a very special place…

    A grand place of work
    Calculators and printers
    Invention nurtured

I like your idea of a haiku a day. What a wonderful way to explore words and language. I must admit, as I’ve spent the last 20 or so minutes working on this, I’ve referenced a dictionary and a thesaurus to find “better” words, and I’ve also worked to make my feelings concise. Its like a stretching exercise.

    Thank you.

  2. (there are moments when I wish computers and the net had never been invented…..)

    I got much more done
    before COMPUTER claimed me,
    stealing all my time.
